GSoC 2018: First week of Community Bonding period

First week of Community Bonding period

After talking to one of my mentors, Cathal, I have learned a lot of things that I did not expect to in GSoC. I really liked the informal setup where the mentors and students can freely talk about anything they want. At the beginning, I thought GSoC is all about contributing to the open source project that I applied to, but there is more than that. Cathal shared with me a lot of articles that are interesting to Computer Science students. Here are some of them:

  • Principle of least privilege
  • Loose coupling
  • Law of Demeter(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_Demeter)
  • Donald Knuth(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Knuth)
  • CS Jargon(http://www.catb.org/~esr/jargon/)
  • Magic story(http://catb.org/jargon/html/magic-story.html)

I came to realize that I can learn more than just programming in GSoC. What a good start for a summer program! I am looking forward to learn more from my mentors this summer :) For now I will dive into these topics and start working on my project :)

The best way to contact me is probably through my email :)
